Children of the Stone is the true story of Ramzi Hussein Aburedwan and his journey “from stone thrower to music student to school founder.”
Our selection group wanted a story that might help us to understand the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Children of the Stone is the true story of Ramzi Hussein Aburedwan and his journey “from stone thrower to music student to school founder.” You may be familiar with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, a collaboration of Daniel Barenboim (conductor, Berlin State Opera) and the late Edward Said (Palestinian intellectual and literature professor at Columbia University). You may have seen the documentary ”Knowledge is the Beginning” and its recorded performance of “The Ramallah Concert.” Young Ramzi was a student in that orchestra and his career and work carries forward the vision of using music to bridge the deep divide in the Middle East.
